Web18 Dec 2024 · In June 2024, I set out to summit Mount Rainier. At 14,41o feet, it is the tallest mountain in Washington and the fifth tallest in the contiguous United States. Our summit bid was called off after an avalanche and the experience taught me the importance of mitigating risk and finding peace within acceptance. WebTwo months later, September 1974, Dad and I (and six others) attempted Mount Rainier via Camp Muir, Cathedral Rocks, Ingraham Glacier, Disappointment Cleaver, Emmons Glacier. We slept at Camp Muir, up at 1 AM and leaving at 2:30 AM for the summit. We were climbing by moonlight. The wind and snow started at 8 AM.
