The push rods & tubes do not run square and straight on the head, they are angled and off center. To do it correctly a VW head must be machined as a right side head and a left side head.

This is a C0AE-6090-D cylinder head for 1960 352 and 1961–1962 390. The casting number (bottom arrows) is almost never the same as the Ford part number.

WebFeb 8, 2012 · Manton recommends .010" clearance between the pushrod and head. I'd be very concerned about the pushrod rubbing on the head. Can't see how it's going to do any good. The side load might break the end of the pushrod or the pushrod cup, or might gall up the pushrod cup. Whenever I see a rocker breakage issue, it's one of the first things I check.
