It’s also worn a deep groove into the EXUP valve itself, in the flapper body, around the border of the shaft, where it’s contacting the outer retainer housing. The bushing for the right end of the shaft usually stays in the exhaust when you pull the shaft out. But there's a spacer on the right side of the shaft that usually falls out inside the exhaust.
